Room Tour: My Living Room

Room Tour: My Living Room

My gratitude to Dyson for helping bring this post for you, with the Dyson Pure Hot + Cool Purifying Fan Heater.

I am finally bringing this post to you guys! I know a lot of you have patiently waited and I’m too, too grateful that you have always been so kind in asking about it. I have lovingly decorated this space over a period of nearly three years, rushing through home decor is not my thing and I like to set it up with time as I find pieces for it. This is a product of my love, hope you enjoy it πŸ™‚

As always, let’s do a quick ‘before’. Here’s when we had just moved in.

And here is the ‘after’ πŸ™‚

A bright, cosy space where Nabeel and I do most of our ‘hanging out’ things. The spot for our everyday catchup with chai, where we have our dinner every night, our at-home ‘cinema’, the spot to chill with friends, read, nap on the weekends, and at times the spot to do absolutely nothing. Welcome to our living room πŸ™‚

This space (as you can see from the ‘before’ picture above) is next to our kitchen and in front of our balcony (the balcony tour is linked at the end of the post, btw!). We decided to keep our TV and all the accompanying gadgets along the wall so we could hide all the cords better.

And kept a narrow space behind the sofa to walk over to the door that takes us to the balcony.

I always love having a statement plant in a room (if I can) and love this bird of paradise that we’ve had for two years.

Since this is a small space, we traded in our old coffee table for this very light and airy one. Moving to a round shape also helped change things up from last time, since we’ve always kept a rectangular one. This also serves as our dinner table every night.

I kept things very minimal on the table, a wax burner and two books only. One is a vintage, 32 year old book about Sydney (found a handmade bookmark inside that said ‘for mother’ <3) and the second, an interiors book by one of my faves.

Interestingly, I started decorating this space with one thought in mind – “I want my TV on a tripod stand”. I don’t know why I didn’t want to mount it on the wall or have it on a console, I just really, really wanted it to be on a stand. Which turned out to be a great option for us eventually because it freed up a lot of space on the wall, and helped keep things light visually. As a bonus, it swivels as well. The TV is a little big for our current living room (though we’re used to it now) but we got it in our previous place where the room was larger and also I live with someone who did not want to listen to me about sexy things like eye strain and stuff.

One of my dream list items from since forever was a hand stool which I got on a huge sale sometime ago. Had a lamp on it once, these days we have our Marshall speakers on it, we keep things exciting πŸ˜›

The couch is Carlo from West Elm, also one that we picked up on a sale and the second piece that I got after the TV stand. I like decorating a room around the couch and rug and so this was the starting point for us for this space.

Nabeel has many things that hook up to the TV and so we needed a TV console to hide everything effectively, while also allowing the remote to access the devices (meaning, no closed doors), so we picked this mesh console from IKEA that worked well for us. Ideally, I would have loved a rattan console to be lighter on the eyes, but it wasn’t in our budget then (and I wasn’t in the mood to DIY or paint, heh), so I bookmarked that for our next home. Mentioning this since some people like using my room images as inspiration, so if you can spend more or do some DIYing on some other console (with rattan webbing or paint), a lighter wood tone would look so much nicer here πŸ™‚

Kept all white-ish things and a glass lamp, as decor on the console to balance out the dark. Also, nearly all of these are functional for me so they’re very useful as well. The candle care kit, lighter, candle, diffuser, lamp – all used by us and made part of the decor.

Printed out this free image from Unsplash (they provide free images, for all purposes, and are linked at the end of the post) and consciously chose to keep just one piece of art on this wall.

This armchair was part of a previous partnership with Matt Blatt and because of the color in the couch and this, we kept color everywhere else on the low.

When decorating, I like keeping space for my usual life habits as well (I never want my decor to be inconvenient to my everyday life), so kept just this one plant on this side table so we would always have easy space for our chai on here πŸ™‚

The rug was also a super score on a sale and is so, so soft and plush under your feet, I love it (linked at the end of the post).

When you can’t figure out what to do with a corner, put a plant in it πŸ˜›

We’ve kept lamps around the space to balance out light when we’re hanging out at night. Ambience is a critical life requirement for me and so I kept this lamp here on the floor in the middle of the plants (along with the lamp on the console and one next to the armchair).

Weekend stuff for chilling out πŸ™‚

On the window (I’ll show this more clearly on Stories), we hung a macrame hanger with some LED candles. A very quick, easy DIY that is different from hanging a plant and we switch it on at night for some more mood lighting.

I’m so grateful to Dyson for partnering with me on this post. The Dyson Pure Hot + Cool Purifying Fan Heater is a multi-faceted machine delivering heating in winter, fan cooling in summer and efficient air purification all year round, for a safe, comfortable time at home .With intelligent sensing, the machine automatically detects airborne particles & gases while simultaneous reporting to the LCD screen and your Dyson Link app in real time. We’ve just started to use this at home and I’m looking forward to giving you a my full assessment in the coming few days. In the meanwhile, if you’d like to check out some details yourself, here is the link to the product.

That’s about it πŸ™‚ If you have questions, please let me know. I’ll do a video tour of the space sometime next week so you can see things in ‘real’ (video tours of my other apartment spaces are in my highlights).

And if you enjoyed this, let me know, would never say no to some love πŸ™‚ I’ve mentioned all brands and links (wherever possible) for everything that you see in my living room. Also, if you’re interested, I’ve dropped some links below to some more spaces from my apartment.

Where to start, the fact that you have kept it so light and airy is the highlight for me and that Huge Bird of paradise is just so so beautiful, I need that in my life, in my lounge πŸ‘€ . The TV or on a tripod stand is such a brilliant idea I bet you guys must have been enjoying cinematic experience ever since the change. And that hand stool with Marshall… so chic
Also love the way your all tables are color coordinated though each of them is a separate buy. That Mustard armchair is so my color, I have been looking for this kinda thing since forever and haven’t been able to find something within my budget πŸ™ˆ
Each and every corner has a shehzeen touch coz of the plants… love the details. πŸ’•
