Chai Talk: Your Dream Life + Job

Chai Talk: Your Dream Life + Job

I’m still traveling so this is just a tiny, little bonus post, friends.

It was FAN-tastic getting to know so many of you in the first ever Chai Talk post on the blog last month (and yes, I am very accepting of alternative beverages so bring your choice of fluids. Light snacks are also allowed/appreciated).

This month, I thought we should indulge in some fantasy. Particularly since I am traveling and when you’re traveling, real life doesn’t exist. So here’s what I want to know.

What would your ideal, dream life + job be? If you had the choice to do ANYTHING you wanted to do, what life and what job would you pick?

For myself, I’ve been super clear on this since about a year now. My ideal life would be to have a house in a slightly (very slightly) detached-from-the-city location. Not too far, so I could commute there in about an hour for processed cookies and the cinema perhaps. But far enough to be able to say ‘Oh, I’m just going into the city to pick up a Starbucks’.

I’d love to have enough property to grow my own food. The basics, nothing too fancy. N could run a tiny little online business doing geek stuff (he thrives on it, it’s unreal). I’d continue to run my blog and despite the city-disconnect, have enough brands on board to make a tiny, decent income (for the basics like medical insurance, family support, eyebrow maintenance). Perhaps make some natural skincare products as a hobby and sell local. Workout in the open in the mornings, read books in the evening. Cook together, grow old together. Also, have wifi.

N and I have both talked this at length and we’d LOVEEEE to do this one day. God, I hope you’re listening.

What would you want to have? Can be as fast-paced or as snail-like as mine. Let’s go. I’m dying to hear.

The picture above is from my Nepal trip last year where I had the best masala chai of my life.

  1. Okay so i cant tell you enough how ours ideas of the ideal life match! I am from Chitral in Pakistan and settled in Islamabad. But my ideal life is to go back, build this one room wall-less cottage with a bedroom, kitchen and a study/studio, grow my own vegetables and fruit and maybe some hens. πŸ˜€

  2. Ok so i just hopelessly hope i was less of a giver. I wanted to do job rather then make rotiyan for everyone before shadi n still doing after shadi(my hubby is super supportive) but its me me n me.i have the inbuilt fault to kill my dreams blukhh for family.
I want to work in PR and communication side soo badly..no idea when n i m 28. I m just hopeless. Dont know u will understand but i just wanted to blurt it out somewhere.

  3. I'm pretty much a city girl but I'd love to live in a house with great ocean/mountain views. Dream job would be to travel the world with my family, eat and critique good food…While getting paid for it. Does that sound too unrealistic for a girl who has done majors in economics? Lol

  4. I loovve traveling…So probably something through which I can go around the world and experience as much as I can…Nature Photographer…..Travel Blogger….I don't care much where I live….I believe that you make a home wherever you go!

    P.s. Austrailia looks superb!

  5. Dream house would be in a place where I could go outside during the day and walk in the streets. Both the climate and the people should permit that. And it should be small, airy apartment in the city centre with large windows. A balcony is a must.
Dream job could be anything, as long as it is having positive energy around and being respected. Having books around would be an advantage.

  6. This is a good one. My imagination is running wild now. But I doubt my fictional plans for life will make any sense, so practically speaking:
Hmm. Career-wise, for now, a swaggy cross between Harvey Specter's lawyering skills and Marshall Erikson's nagging conscience. And also being able to find the time and the impetus to write my heart out.
For a later time frame, full devotion to my hypothetical writing career and a heavy focus on embarking on and leading a much healthier lifestyle.
Oh and being able to travel. A lot.
As much as I LOVE Lahore, I'd give anything to not be here from May-June.
And always, always, finding the time to read as much as my mortal soul can absorb.
(Bonus fantastical wish: being a food critic/travel journalist where I'm paid to try out weird/kick ass food and gorgeous new places)
Okay this is a lot and clearly nothing is stemming the flow because I keep on coming up with shiz to be/do in the future so I'm stopping myself. Right. Now.

    1. Oh my goodness!!
      Suiter…reader…foodie….travel lover
      HI!!??????

  7. I want to live a countryside/village/small town life in Scotland. As you said, with wi-fi, of course! And I want this huge study room with one wall completely filled with books. And a ladder with it to reach the top shelves. ☺️

My dream is to continue learning calligraphy (all different kinds of scripts)! And I'm such a stationery nerd that I'd like to create a brand of high-quality and affordable stationery!

And oh, I'd also like to adopt a child one day too πŸ™‚

  8. Ideally I wouldn't mind moving around the world. Never settling in one place for more than a few years. And dream job would definitely be anything that allows me to contribute to the benefit of children, their education and well being. So maybe something in an international organisation. I don't even mind switching from the legal sector for that. No idea how that'll all come true οΏ½οΏ½

  9. Dream Life:

Living in a secluded beautiful community overlooking the ocean. Waking up to water and a house with a open floor plan and a pool :P. With a hot, faithful and loving husband (one can dream).

Job: High powered career driven job. A CEO at a multinational company. Maybe a tech company.

  10. such a great post and question! my imagination is running wild yet at the same time, not really!
dream life: just like you mentioned, close enough but far enough from a major city. i think i prefer apartment life to house life (less to clean and maintain haha). have dreams of interior decorating the place up, so that would be the best!
dream job: SO HARD. I think i really like what i studied in college/am working in now, so ideally just to grow in my current role to some sort of managerial position. although i would love to work in the marketing/pr/advertising/promotion/fashion world as well….and i'd love to travel, not only for work, leisure as well. Just the way you & your hubby do! iA one day!
hope austrailia is awesome! cant wait to see more details about it when you return! πŸ™‚

  11. errrmmmm my ideal life would include an accessible gym or proper working out hours and taking vacations after 3,4 months without having to worry about the damage happening in my pocket. A home with minimum noise around and waking up to the aroma of pancakes each morning. *_*

my ideal home would be an apartment or a small home with lots of sunlight and air coming through with a very chic bohemian or rustic interior – totally white walls with colourful furniture and accents πŸ˜€

my ideal job would be something working with or working for animals (I cannot even tell how sentimental I'm in that department ) ^_^

Have a safe flight back home πŸ™‚

  12. Hi,
Dream+ideal (aka practically impossible) zindagi would be in the mountains. But before I permanently settle in the mountains with an unlimited supply of books and chocolates, I need to be able to see/travel the world. If this doesn't work out, I will lead the malang life, totes. Almost sounds like a plan, haina?

  14. The only thing that I truly want to do in life is to work with dogs-rescue dogs. To get it into a streamlined operation so that animals in our country (pakistan) don't have to suffer the way they do.
[if anyone reading this is thinking that humans live off in worse conditions too etc etc, don't bother commenting please because it would ruin my day, probably yours as well because I can go on and on and on about this]
Right now, I don't have the resources to do it but I hope one day..
Temporary plans, job plans, house plans, car plans come and go but this has stuck with me since I was about 15-16 and I really hope that I do something about this in this lifetime.

    1. We're on the same team Mahnoor. One day if you get to make your dogs rescue team count me in !!

  15. Your dream life sounds so jane Austin-ish of the 21st century. When just reading about it left me a wee bit refreshed, I wonder how therapeutic would it be to actually LIVE such a life!
Oh and for me, I'm insanely obsessed with cats, majorly! I'd love to build a sanctuary one day that rescues and takes up abandoned sick and injured animals. I know it might sound silly as it does to everyone around me considering how I'm a doctor now and my priorities in life are entirely poles apart but witnessing the plight of these poor creatures here where we have absolutely zero concept of animals rights and abuse, my heart wants to do something to fix it.

  16. So I tried posting this comment when I had a cup of tea but my ipad refused to oblige. So, my dream job would be to the social media manager at a publishing house. I LOVE books and social media with a DYING passion and to make that my life, from videos, to behind the scenes snapchats, Twitter q&As, gifs, about books and the reading life would be my ultimate dream. I will always be intellectually stimulated and free books, now that is the idea life. Ideally this life would be in a bustling city because not much of a quiet nature gurl πŸ˜›

  17. My dream life is to stay at home include no tension for financial expenses, My husband will bear my all expenses and we live together! Rabia

  18. I am in love with your dream life πŸ˜€ so you can imagine what I want with my life!!
Kher my dream life will be like:
To live in a small house with a huge balcony in a valley surrounded by mountains, amazing snow peaked mountains, where I would like to have all kind of seasons Spring to Winter and where travelling will be on foot or bicycles…I just don't want cars, traffic and pollution around me, when you breath it should feel as if your are in the middle of some meadows with lots and lots of greenery πŸ™‚ and yes vacation every year is a must!!!

too much dreamy nae? πŸ˜€ Allah please make this true please please:-D

Dream Job: I am a lazy person and I just don't want to do a 9 to 5 job at all…so considering my dream life I would love to arrange & manage tours for the people like me who love mountains because mountains are my first love <3 I actually want to establish a tour company for Pakistan's northern areas!

TaDaa!! That's all from my dream place and job πŸ™‚ Thanks for letting me my heart out I loved writing about it πŸ˜€

P.S I always wait for you to announce your next travel destination and look forward to it…And Australia is indeed awesome πŸ™‚ Keep Travelling (Y)

  19. I want to run a restaurant in a magical place like Prague or Vienna (laid back city with a magic of centuries old hostory) and also being able to travel and explore.
My house should look like the colorful houses in cape town by the ocean and a forest. Too fictional I believe!

  20. I am a skin care and makeup junkie and I am also very passionate about the environment. So my ideal job would be to merge these together and create an environmentally friendly skin care and makeup brand and make it as global as possible! Also, I would want a life partner who not only accepts my passion but encourages me to push myself beyond my explored capabilities.

As for dream place, it is pretty similar to yours actually. I wouldn't want to live very far from the city center but I would still want a relatively peaceful neighborhood and a proper house with garden.

PS: I love your blog and your posts are very creative! Kudos!

  22. This is such an inviting question to your imaginations and aspirations. I would love to be a travel blogger. Have a partner with the same goals. We'd both travel the world, take something from the culture we visit and give back a part of us. Sorta like a legacy, touching people with a message or a movement (not to be mixed with hippies or gypsies that is :p ) and then settle down at a beautiful property outside the city, occasionally visiting the city.Writing books and blogging.

  23. Chilling on the beach all day, taking photos. That would be the life.

Bad idea to answer this after stuffing my face with Iftaar.. #lazybum

  24. Ideally I would love to live near the ocean. I would actually prefer to have my chai on my wraparound porch watching the sun set and the waves crash. On the other hand, I'm so torn, I would love to have my own garden, I'm pretty scared of worms but I want to grow my own fruits and veggies. Again the wraparound porch is a must and I would probably spend my time there.
My ideal job is, I love home decor and beauty equally so if I get to be a stager that works as a MUA then sign me up.

  25. so my husband and I just got back from our trip to Italy last week where we visited the fame cinque terre ( five villages)
