desi blogger

Five years of blogging and here I am redoing my ‘About Me’ section because as much as I’ve evolved with the blog over the years, this page has lazily stayed the same. So here’s me introducing myself to those of you who may be new and just having another chat with those who’ve been with me for years.

Hi, I’m Shehzeen. Born in Pakistan, raised in Pakistan. I currently live in Sydney with the love of my life, Nabeel (who by the way, through no choice of his, makes guest appearances on the blog from time to time).

This blog is one of my most favorite spots in the world. It’s where I write what I’d text a friend about. My favorite eyeliner, the perfect white pants, fixing my living room, cooking disasters at home, realizations, dreams, grief, fears, birthdays, anniversaries, random nothings, social commentary. Important things, pointless things.

I love average. Perfectly done things are great but not my aspiration. Average style, average cooking, average makeup skills, average to-do lists. I thrive on average. I’ll cheer you on for that perfect dinner you took 8 hours to cook. And I’ll cheer you on for the takeout you threw onto fancy plates, because why not.

I’m a fan of slow living. I appreciate single-tasking. I like to simplify the smaller things, I find they help simplify the bigger ones in life.

I love nature. I love plants.

I don’t like spending too much on material items. I prefer low budget and value secondhand.

I like to believe that I’m not here to sell an ideal or to conform to someone’s expectation of me. I don’t wish to sell a pre packaged version of myself. I learn, I evolve, I share as I am. I’m just being.

I don’t think I aspire to wish to be relatable to you over situations in life. We’ll find relatability to each other at particular points in time – moving into a new home, a career milestone, loss of a parent, relationships in life – but as life goes on, both of us will evolve. You’ll have more kids or travel more. I’ll burn more toasts, maybe do things you can’t find the time for. But I believe in long-term commitment, I think situational relatability is an oversold concept of the internet. I hope for us to be relatable to each other over simply….life. The love for the important people we know, our compassion for others, warm support for good humans, the want to be better, the drive to find the perfect bingeworthy show. No matter where you are in life, no matter where I am in life. I want us to be more long-term than some situational relatability, you know.

I love wholesome food. And kind people. It’s good to be good to others.

Everyday life can get busy. We all need to disconnect. A two week vacation on an island with margaritas and good WiFi is always the right solution. But when that’s not an option, take out five minutes to come hang with me everyday. Some days will be life-changing, like discovering that red lipstick we’d been waiting for our entire lives. And some days it will be more casual like reading unsolicited life advice.. But we’ll find you that break whenever you need it. And even when there’s nothing at all. Please come as you are, this is a safe place here.

We’ll have multiple cups of chai together (or any legally accessible beverage of your choice) while I’ll pretend to talk lifestyle and you’ll pretend to listen. It’s going to be good.

Thanks for coming today and (almost?) everyday.

That's one hell of a job! You're doing a great job here 🙂 Totally admirable. Three words, KEEP IT UP!

    1. OMG i got a gem .i am total loving with your content your bio..

  2. hi would love to get in touch with you for a feature on masalamommas.com, do you have an email contact? Anjum Nayyar.

  3. I have loved your blog since-don't-know-when specially for the reason that you kicked your corporate job and now entertain women like us (stuck in corporate).

Few days back, I was reading your blog during my lunch hour when my Indian colleague looked at your picture and was awestruck that how beautiful you are. He is a guy so I told him "dude she is married."

I had to tell you this hence dropping a comment 🙂
You are super awesome in making anyone's day.

    1. Author

I LOVE YOU. If I make your day, it's comments like these that make mine. I really love it when a long time reader comments, so much, much gratitude 😀

p.s. hi indian colleague, here are some fries. ^_^

  4. Shehzeeeen! I came across your blog a couple weeks ago in passing and checked it out. I later closed all the webpages I had open and went to bed, and honestly I can't remember any of the other sites I had open, but somehow I find myself coming back to yours time and time again. So needless to say, I think I'm hooked and it's about time I give in! Love the blog girl!

Oh man Baneen, I was dying at my laptop right now, sleepy and tired, and you just pumped me up. Haha. Thank you so much for the love. So happy you found it and I hope you stay FOREVAHHHHH.

  5. It is so disturbing that we, as a society, have a holier-than-thou complex on each and every thing. We just have to poke our noses in every thing and criticize just for the sake of criticizing. Sad. Learn to love people. Let go of the negativity. If anyone has seen "Bambi" when they were little then they should remember "If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all".

  6. I like your writing style. Short, Good and Effective. Your gift is that you don't indulge in unnecessary thoughts. Keep up the great work.

  7. OH GOD I MISSED THIS SO MUCH!

  8. Loved, loved, loved reading the bio, especially the relatability part! (Secretly screenshotted it to re-read it a zillion times to have a better understanding/answer for some people that u outgrow in life at a particular point but might click back together after a few years/decades)

  9. Been sort of quietly been watching (ummm read: stalking) you for a little while and officially followed you on insta not long after your move to Aus… but this intro is where I stopped and wanted to say hi 🙂 having been a (slightly) decent blogger until a few years ago, I felt like you whisked me away with you… and thats what blogging is.. when you’re able to take someone on your journey of endless chaais and other life things ❤ and they don’t mind.. for the most part!
Great apartment in Syd too, looking forward to seeing it all set up. I live in Canberra so if you guys ever decide to drive down hit me up, I may be instrumental in convincing you that it is not as boring as its reputation 😋 and I will promise you decent coffee or chai haha!
All the best withe the blog revamp and new life in Aus , much love.

  25. Hi Shehzeen, I am a silent follower on insta since long but its been recent that I visited your blog page and have been compelled to say hi to you. I struggle with giving and receiving admiration (makes me super awkward) but the hardwork you have put in your blog speaks for itself. I go even way back with you when i was looking for “what kind of look” I want for my own Mehndi that i stumbled upon a picture of you in that green mukesh dress (please tell me it was you or my whole life will be a lie, lol) only to realize years later that i was YOU! I got married in 2013 btw. Just like you, have recently moved to Sydney from Pakistan and settling down in new life and a new job. I have a feeling we will meet at Rashays one day, lol.. .and I will definitely come say Hi..

    1. Author

Hey Saima, This is so generous of you to say. Thank you for the love for both of us :* To be honest, everyone has dull moments, it’s just how you handle them on a day to day basis, so probably doesn’t look that way for me. It’s just a fraction of anyone’s life you see online, lots of love!

Thank you Rida, it’s too kind of you to say that 🙂 I don’t think you should try to be like me, or anyone else, but just the best version of yourself 🙂 You already sound like you have such a sweet spirit, so I don’t doubt that you as a person, and then the both of you, will work out the best life for yourself IA, lots of love :*

  31. I have been following you for so loooong and Shehzeeeeen you are the kind of person everyone needs in his life. You are like a cherry on the cake, a healing tablet and a full-time entertainer.
