Fridays

Friday, May 06, 2016 The Desi Wonder Woman 20 Comments

So we had a nice little discussion last week about the Fridays post and I loved all your responses -  critical or otherwise -  they really helped me out. I let everything marinate in my head for a few days and reached a few conclusions that I want to share with you in today's post, very quickly before anyone falls asleep.

1. The Fridays posts gets to stay. From all the responses I got on the tiny little poll I did, 89% of the people wanted to keep it. The comments on the post last week as well as on the poll website that I received separately were so full of love for this series. I never meant for this post to be informative, it's just a two minute read that I started only to inspire you to get your weekend started on a happy note. It will have zero value if you're looking for information, but otherwise if your intent is to takeaway something more mindful. While I don't want to ignore the other 11% who don't want to see this, I imagine that's how it will be for anything I post - there will always be something on the blog that someone will not like and I think that's fine. Thank you to those loving the post - after all I create it, so it warms my heart when you say you love it :)

2.  I loved some of the ideas - particularly on not repeating content across all channels. This was really insightful for me and definitely something that I'll be implementing. Since not everyone is on Snapchat for example, and the blog remains the point that gets the most traffic compared to any of my other social media accounts, I had always tried to make sure everyone got to see what I shared on one account, let's say. However, I realize for those readers who follow along on all accounts, some stuff can get repetitive. So I'm going to get more creative on this and try and not show you stuff on the blog that you may have already seen on Snapchat. The only reason you'll see stuff repeated is if I feel like I have more to say about it, or want to share more detail on some aspects that I didn't mention before, or if I just feel like doing it (Taboo post today below) or if I have a temporary moment of insanity - other than any of these reasons, you'll see new content each time. Thank you.

3.  I got some general feedback on other stuff as well and it varied immensely. The same thing which one person loved, another disliked. I realise that it's not possible to make everyone happy so I don't want you to feel that I ignored your input. However, I started this blog doing things extremely organically. I never followed what anyone else was doing, I didn't do any of the stuff to get a quick audience and I've been writing from my heart ever since. I can't promise to produce stuff that everyone will like but I can promise to always be honest in my approach. My posts will always come straight from the heart and I'll hope you love them. If you do, my day is made. If you don't, come back the next day and hopefully you'll be happy.

Thank you for reading this terribly long post and for all your comments (in fact I will be replying to everyone individually as soon as I finish this ras malai). I love you guys.

Finally found a lace kimono exactly how I wanted. Bought this one from Bershka; it's ankle-length (for me, lulz) and it was AED 175.

A keychain gift from a friend that's going to hangout on my bag for a few days before serving its real purpose in life. She got it from H&M for 20 bucks I think.

Insanely epic game of Taboo last night with friends. It's the long weekend here so we had a FIFA lunch (N's invention) at our place and followed it up with this. Tell me what games you guys play, I want to get a couple more.

As obsessive as a love can be for an inanimate object, I have that for these bow-ties. Cannot wait to wear them (although I have no idea what to do with the second one but they come in a pair, so) You can buy them here.

Have a great weekend, guys.

  1. I'm SO happy you'll be keeping this. I really admire how you take feedback. Your writing is so pure, mature yet hilarious. Have you considered writing a book? I would be the first at your book signing.

  4. I LOVE Taboo! Especially since amna, BFF and I have no shame when it comes to acting out the words without using the ones on the card. all dirty jokes and innuendos go. Thank you for taking all the feedback and trying to make your blog as amazing as it can be :)

    1. I kept trying to make dirty jokes out of the horribly double-meaning clues these guys were dropping but no one was getting them :( :D And I love you.

    1. Hahhaa. Same here, man. And not a dumb question at all, since even I learnt to play it in the last few years only. Basically, you have cards with a word on each , accompanied with 5 clue words. You have to make your team member guess that word without using any of the clue words. And do as many as you can until the timer runs out. :D
