I’m going to begin by saying that this post is for the lazy, poorly educated (in makeup of course) and just-want-to-look-borderline-presentable people like me. Makeup pros, shut the window immediately because you might cringe at multiple things, feel sudden palpitations and eventually start dying a slow death.
Now that that is out of the way, I want to say that this has been one of the most requested posts, particularly on Snapchat. I honestly know nothing about makeup. I do the basics and repeat the same thing every single day with little or no variation. My entire makeup routine is packed into a solid 5 min operation (7 when the eyeliner is misbehaving) and I don’t own much beyond these few products that I’m going to use. If you’re really, really at a beginner level, you’ll find this of value, otherwise you’re better off doing something meaningful like ignoring your kids or something.
This is the makeup I do when I have to go to a meeting or meet a friend or just generally look presentable. Let’s discuss these 7 minutes of my life.
Step 1 (15 secs): Moisturize on a clean face. I generally do 1 min on my Clarisonic before getting ready, it just helps the makeup sit better but that’s part of my showering routine which nobody needs to know.
Step 2 (1 min): I take a tiny amount of my bb cream and slap it all over my face. Then I blend it in with a beauty blender. I always use a beauty blender, without it I feel like the makeup is floating on my face which I don’t have good feelings about. I also prefer to use the medium shade because it looks super natural, even though it makes me 1% darker than my actual complexion.
I’m crazy about this one: Garnier BB Cream, Miracle Skin Perfector in Medium for Combination & Oily Skin (even though my skin is normal but it works for me). I use the bb cream that’s made in France. I’ve heard there’s another pasty version out there, so if you want to try this, go for the French one.
Step 3 (30 secs): I pump out the tiniest dot of concealer and split it under both eyes. And then blend it in.
I use the MAC Pro Longwear Concealer in NW25.
Step 4 (15 secs): Blend all over the face with the beauty blender one more time so it looks like my own skin.
Step 5 (3 mins): Do the eyeliner (of course, I do it with one hand. If it’s in the picture, it’s true). I don’t care if both sides are not perfectly matching. As long as a human being in a 5 feet vicinity can’t tell the difference, I’m cool with it.
I use, wait a second, I’m DEPENDENT on the Chanel Stylo Eyeliner (really Chanel, you couldn’t have come up with a better name?). It’s the only high-end item I own and it’s magic.
Step 6 (30 secs): I do one swipe of a mascara. For a natural look, I wear a light mascara (left pic) but if I’m going to a fancier dinner, I use a heavy one (right pic). I do mascara even if I skip eyeliner, I don’t really appreciate my life if I’m going without it.
Maybelline on the left for a natural look (nearly all Maybelline ones are good). Arcancil Volume Ooh Lala for a pumped-up, fake-eyelash look; I LOVE this mascara.
Step 7 (1 min): Lipstick is like oxygen for my soul. I rarely ever go without it. I always put it on and then rub it in with a finger. I just feel like that blends it in and I prefer a slightly worn-in look. Perfect lipstick doesn’t go with my face. (Also, if you look at the picture carefully it’s like I’m giving you the finger. Random fact. Sorry about that). Here I’m wearing one of my faves: Sweet Touch 904.
Step 8 (15 secs): If I feel like I’m in the mood, I’ll put on a light blush, otherwise I’m done. I only own a couple of blushes but the one I wear 90% of the time is MAC Peaches.
That’s about it. Look inside your brain and tell me your thoughts.
Until next time.
