Last Saturday, N and I stepped out for an afternoon date over chicken wings. We didn’t have a lot of weekend chores to do and just wanted to hang out, have good food, get some great dessert and end the day with a trip to a used bookstore. So we got ready around lunch time, got into our car and headed to Original Wings & Rings.
And hands down, it turned out to be one of our most favorite food experiences ever. We spent the most leisurely lunch hour with a full 3-course situation going on and it was the best.
Original Wings & Rings is in Liberty House, DIFC so the approach is kind of boring but once you’re inside, you’re in a pretty fun sportsbar. You can eat a bar tables or booths, there are arcade games, foosball tables, karaoke and of course, sports on TVs all around.
Because we went in on a Saturday afternoon, it was relatively quiet (which I prefer) but if you want more action, then Friday brunch time or weekend nights would be good for you. There was lots of natural light, a very bright, happy space.
Now let’s check out the food.
The starters were amazing. The onion rings were ginormous and one of the best I’ve had. SO GOOD (with ranch sauce).
The nachos were delicious; the buffalo chicken on top with the cheese was killer. N and I were both pretty much in heaven after having these. Although they were way too much for two people; I can easily see them split across at least five people with enough for all.
For mains, we had the buffalo chicken sandwich and chicken wings. Both of us were sold on the wings which came in two flavors: Crazy and Garlic Parmesan.
Both of us are sissies so we chose the ‘mild’ level on their hot scale (There was a ‘one million’ level that actually requires you to sign a disclaimer before you can order it, FACK). There were 10 flavors to choose from, FYI (I’ve put a picture for them somewhere below).
We finished the wings quickly, they were delish (the sandwich was ok).
Also, we got curly fries and wedges on the sides – they were done to perfection. The accompanying ranch sauce and blue cheese dips were also kickass. Then, dessert.
We were so full by this time that we almost, almost ordered just one – and what a mistake that would have been – but then decided to go with two: the original cheesekcake and the brownie. They were both the BOMB. One of the best cheesecakes I’ve had, really (just ask them to not put that pink sauce thing, I didn’t like it).
And the brownie – easily the BEST brownie. EVER. It was slightly warmed up and melted in our mouths. You must, must have it.
Even though this place is for the wings, all the other stuff we had just makes the whole experience. It’s an amazing place to hang out with friends for a happy, lazy meal. And if you’re a family, you can bet your kids are going to be pretty happy too (games + wings = best entertainment).
Highly recommend it.
